The poster hit the nail on the head, contact your lender see if they are willing to work with you on a loan modification but stay away from fly by night companies that take your monies and do nothing,
On the loan modification if you seek to defer certain payments and have them back ended on your principal then maybe , if you believe loan modification equates to lender reducing the principal on the loan you are mistaken
Do NOT work with someone who will charge you a huge fee and perhaps in the end, not even get your loan modified!!! Why would you do this, when you can take that money and pay your mortgage! Go to this link and read the forums of people who are in the same boat as you and it will give you leads on what numbers to call, and how to do this YOURSELF!

There is a huge amount of fraud in this type of thing.
I think you should work directly with your lender.
