They’re all con artists. Save your money and call the lender yourself. They will not agree to anything special with a lawyer, in fact, the lender would rather talk to you.
In addition, if they only offer you a temporary modification that will eventually lead you back to your current situation, let them take the property (assuming you are upside down). Forget the short sale, it still effs up your credit and you’ll wind up owing the IRS taxes on the amount the lender writes off as a loss. Stop paying your mortgage now and save all that money for a good rental and a future down payment on a new home when the market hits bottom in two years. You should be ale to save a good 6-9 payments. And yeah, don’t worry…you’ll be able to qualify to buy another house by then.
